The OnePlus Nord2's performance has been tweaked, but OnePlus plans to change it

The just announced OnePlus Nord 2 has been confirmed to feature the same performance throttling that was recently reported on the OnePlus 9 The good news, however, is that OnePlus is working on a way to turn this off if users so desire

According to Android Police, OnePlus said that "performance optimizations" will be made on the OnePlus Nord 2 as well as the OnePlus 9R In Android 12, however, OnePlus promises that users will be able to choose between the new Full Power mode and the existing optimized mode

This began with the removal of the OnePlus 9 series from the list of popular benchmarking app Geekbench; OnePlus confirmed that this was the case and said that throttling helps maintain battery life while keeping performance constant across all units stated that throttling helps to maintain battery life while keeping performance constant across all units However, the idea of throttling was not accepted by OnePlus power users and was considered a form of "benchmarking operation" by the Geekbench team

OnePlus seems to have learned its lesson by putting the choice in the hands of users in time for OxygenOS 12 (or ColorOS 12 if they start using software from new parent company Oppo instead) It is unfortunate, however, that OnePlus' latest phones ship with throttling enabled and cannot be changed until OnePlus sends the Android 12 update

In our own testing of the Nord 2, performance seemed consistent with what we would expect from the Dimensity 1200-AI chipset However, during our time with the Nord 2, it did not always live up to its full potential

The OnePlus 9 series, especially the OnePlus 9 Pro, with its Snapdragon 888 chipset and up to 12GB RAM, was among the best in our tests However, we will have to wait for the Android 12 update to see its full performance in everyday apps
