While it is already known that Sony is developing a new PSVR model called PSVR 2, a report has reportedly shown off the next-generation VR headset at a developer conference.

This is according to a YouTube channel titled "PSVR Without Parole," which claims that Sony leaked detailed information about the upcoming device, including its official codename, specifications, features, and gaming strategy. Sony's next VR headset is reportedly codenamed "next-gen VR" (NGVR), but will likely be called "PSVR 2" when it is released.

According to sources, the controller will have capacitive touch sensors that will allegedly be able to detect when the user is holding the controller or simply operating the buttons. And not only that, Sony's new controller for its next-generation VR system is said to be able to detect even the distance between the user's fingers.

When it comes to gaming, according to the video, "Sony wants to move away from VR experiences and focus on console-quality AAA titles." To that end, Sony will make hybrid games that can be played on TVs and PSVR2. Also, you can choose to download either the PS5 version or the VR version, so you don't have to do both.

The PSVR2 is also said to have a much upgraded field of view. This YouTuber stated that the new VR headset will offer a 110-degree FOV, 10 degrees wider than the previous model. It is also reported that it will feature a flexible scaling resolution that "focuses rendering resources on the player's focus area."

Another leak from UploadVR also claims that the PSVR 2 will feature a high-resolution 2,000 x 2,040 OLED 4K display, a significant upgrade from the existing model's 1,920 x 1,080 OLED display.

While the above certainly sounds exciting, we are taking this information with a grain of salt as there has been no official announcement from Sony so far. However, we did hear some interesting comments earlier in the investor catch-up material. In a discussion about new VR peripherals, Sony stated that they will offer "the unique experience synonymous with PlayStation," which makes us think that a AAA exclusive may be in the works.

The company also mentions other features, including a single cable connection to the PS5 console. The document states that the new wireless motion controller will be orb-like in shape and will feature the same haptic feedback currently offered by Sony's DualSense controller. Sadly, however, the next-generation PSVR (or PSVR 2) will also not be available anytime soon, as confirmed by both Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platforms, and PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan.

"I think we are more than a few minutes away from the future of VR," Ryan said in an interview with the Washington Post.
