"Halo Infinite" is set to be the flagship exclusive title for the Xbox Series X this winter, but the game's file size may have console owners sweating In fact, if the recently leaked install size is correct, they may want to secure storage space or consider hard drive expansion options before launch
Images of the game's Microsoft Store product page have been released and, if they are accurate, show that the game requires a whopping 9724 GB of hard drive space Incidentally, the previous game in the series, "Halo 5: Guardians," had an installed capacity of 46 GB at launch However, this was inflated by subsequent updates
The Xbox Series X comes standard with a 1TB SSD, of which only 802GB is usable If this image is legitimate, "Halo Infinite" will demand a significant amount of space on the console's hard disk; in the case of the Xbox Series S, the situation is even worse: the console has a 512 GB SSD, and the available storage is only 364 GB only
Nevertheless, "Halo Infinite" will not be the largest "Halo" game in terms of install size That ignominious honor is currently held by "Halo: The Master Chief Collection," at a whopping 138GB
Of course, 9724 GB is likely the starting point for "Halo Infinite" With extensive post-launch support already confirmed, the next "Halo" will likely require much more than 100 GB once updates begin
Xbox Series X owners who are already struggling for hard drive space may want to consider upgrading their console's storage Using the best external hard drive or an officially licensed Seagate Storage Expansion Card can add 1TB of storage, but it costs $220
The ease of SSD expansion is one area where the Xbox Series X certainly outperforms the PS5 So if you feel the need to add more storage to your console before the launch of Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 this year, at least the process will be easy Even if upgrading the internal hard drive would cost more than a year's worth of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
Halo Infinite is expected to be released later this year, though an exact date is still being kept under wraps A recent technical preview gave us a taste of the game's multiplayer component
