The GTA Remaster Trilogy can head to PS5, Xbox Series X and switch quickly

It may not be the sequel we were hoping for, but the "GTA" series may soon be coming to current-gen consoles in the form of a new remastered collection.

This is according to a report from Kotaku, which states that the collection is a compilation of PlayStation 2 titles "GTA 3," "Vice City," and "San Andreas" and will be available by the end of the year on PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC, Kotaku does not name any sources, but says it is familiar with the affairs of Rockstar Dundee, a division of Rockstar Games that has a reliable track record and is reportedly in charge of developing the remastered version.

Given that the last mainline entry in the series, "GTA V," was released two generations ago in 2013, fans were probably hoping for a follow-up to "GTA 6" rather than a new paint job on a title they had already played. Nevertheless, it will still be exciting for many, especially new fans of the untested franchise, to be able to play these games easily on the latest hardware and in a single package.

Given the recent activities of Rockstar Games and publisher 2K Games, this new report is not surprising: 2K has openly announced that three remastered games are in the works, while at the same time creating GTA mods that add elements of older games to the new titles, fans The company issued a takedown notice to.

Kotaku's source added that all three games will use a mix of "old and new graphics," including a redesigned UI, and will be developed with the latest Unreal Engine. In terms of gameplay, however, these titles will aim to maintain the original PS2 experience.

The report also states that Rockstar Dundee is working on a next-gen version of "GTA V". This is not really a surprise, and means that it will probably be several years before "GTA 6" appears. Nevertheless, at least we'll be able to experience the "GTA V" campaign again, with a higher fidelity than the original or the last-gen remaster, and continue building our profiles in Rockstar's ridiculously lucrative multiplayer mode, GTA Online. The game is scheduled for release on November 11, and we know it will run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, at least on PS5.

As for GTA 6, it is difficult to know what is real fact and what is just wishful thinking. All we can say for sure is that Rockstar Games is currently working on it in some form.

There are rumors that the game is set in the 1980s, on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border for a storyline related to the drug trade, but corroboration is scarce. In any case, if reports of a remastered trilogy turn out to be accurate, we will at least have something fun to play with while we wait.
