GameStop has not tried it anymore with the PS5 bundle

Due to the huge demand for PS5 restocks, many retailers have opted to bundle the PS5 with a variety of extras. They range from the practical, like an additional DualSense controller, to the non-essential, like a $200 racing wheel, but GameStop may have beaten them all with this confusing PS5 bundle.

During the gaming retailer's latest restocking earlier today (August 17), GameStop was selling multiple PS5 bundles. Most of them were the usual assortment of a console with a second controller and a few physical games, but one of them is causing quite a stir online: for $629, GameStop was selling a PS5 digital bundle that included 5,850 Madden points .

These Madden points are worth $50. However, given that Madden NFL 22 is functionally useless without a copy of Madden NFL 22, it seems rather silly not to include a copy. Since the bundle included a disc-free version of PS5, a physical copy of Madden was obviously out of the question. Perhaps a $50 voucher to use at the PlayStation Store would have made a little more sense.

What makes this bundle so strange is that the code is useless unless the purchaser himself purchases a digital copy of Madden NFL 22 from the PlayStation Store for $70. Curiously, this was the only PS5 Digital Edition bundle offered in this restock, so there was not even an alternative option for non "Madden" players.

Gamers still looking to buy a PS5 were quick to point out the oddity of this bundle on Twitter. However, given that GameStop once again sold out of PS5 consoles, some were not deterred by the packaging's inexplicability.

If you're still looking for a PS5 and want the console by itself, or at least a bundle with items you can actually use, bookmark the PS5 Restocking Hub. This guide contains the latest inventory information and updates obtained from each major retailer.
