Intel's first Alchemist graphics card was able to fight Nvidia GeForce RTX3070

Finding a place to buy Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3070 has been a difficult task, but Intel may have a solution in the form of the Arc Alchemist graphics card.

This is according to Twitter leaker Greymon55, who claims to have seen Intel's official slides, which show the chipmaker's upcoming graphics card aimed squarely at the GeForce RTX 3070. This is reportedly Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger talking about the company's Xe graphics architecture (via WCCFTech), which the Arc Alchemist gaming high-performance graphics card will use.

"We have a GPU architecture, where we start to really put pressure on Nvidia for the first time," said Gelsinger in an interview with financial analyst Pierre Ferragu.

This is a bold claim, given that Intel's GeForce 30 series graphics cards are among the most powerful and keep AMD's latest graphics technology at bay. However, Greymon55 claims that Intel's slides show a "175-225W SKU" that would be competitive with the GeForce RTX 3070 and AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. Comparatively, the thermal design power (TDP) of these graphics cards is 220W and 230W, respectively.

Without solid evidence, benchmarks, or specs, it is difficult to put much faith in this leak. However, Intel is not a new player in the chip world and has worked on graphics technology before. Therefore, we feel that Intel may indeed have a competitive graphics card family in the works.

Intel is a welcome third competitor in the graphics card field, which has long been a one-on-one battle between Nvidia and AMD. More competition means a chance to get better technology at a lower price, which is especially good for users who are looking to build or buy the best gaming PCs we can choose from.

And we have already mentioned that Intel can bring both power and innovation to the mobile graphics card world and avoid the chip shortage that has plagued AMD and Nvidia for about 12 months. Thus, while we encourage you to take all this information and corporate bluster with a grain of doubt, it is equally possible that Intel is shaping up to deliver some very interesting graphics cards in 2022.
