If you want to expand your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S storage, but a 1TB drive is a bit hard on the wallet: ...... Good news for those who want to expand their storage, there is something to the rumors of a 512GB Seagate expansion card.

A retailer's blurb (via Windows Central) has been spotted that a 512GB version of the Xbox Series X expansion card will be available. It also appears that a standard external SSD will also be available, but unfortunately there is no pricing information on either.

The Seagate expansion card is a valuable addition to the next generation of Xbox consoles, especially given the relatively small amount of internal storage on both consoles. 1TB may seem like a lot, but AAA titles take up nearly 100GB of space, could quickly run out of capacity. The Series S, in particular, is a digital-only device, with only 512 GB of capacity.

However, a 1TB expansion card with an MSRP of $220 is quite expensive. After all, the entire Xbox Series S console is only $80 more expensive. The card is already discounted, but it is unlikely to save more than a few dollars.

Adding 512GB may not be that much, but the price of the new card is likely to drop noticeably as a result. Previously, a French retailer was selling the card for €155 (about $182). Whether this is a placeholder or the U.S. price will be converted directly is not known, but it does suggest that the 512GB card will be more affordable.

Sadly, there is no indication of larger storage options, such as a 2TB expansion card. While I can't speak for everyone, I would be willing to spend a little more money on larger storage options. After all, who wouldn't want to triple the available capacity on a Series X?

The external SSD drives promised in these promotional boxes are likely to be a different beast altogether. While Seagate expansion cards can run next-generation titles as if they were installed on the console's internal SSD, external drives are not fast enough. However, they can be used to store next-generation titles that you don't want to delete and reinstall or download later.

The external drive can also be used to store and run older generation games, thus freeing up space on the console's internal SSD. Unfortunately, the price of this drive is unknown, but it appears to offer 1 TB of storage capacity.

Windows Central speculates that these products will be recognized and promoted as early as next week, given the availability of promotional materials in US retail stores. However, we do not know when they will be available or how much they will cost.

Thankfully, there is still plenty of time left in 2021.
