It has been almost a year since Sony's next-generation gaming console was launched, but the nightmare of restocking the PS5 continues. Currently, purchasing a PS5 is extremely difficult and requires a great deal of effort and luck, but it appears that the end is finally in sight.

AMD CEO Lisa Su said this week (via Spieltimes): "Between June and September of next year 2022, it will probably be impossible to go to a game store or department store and buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.

AMD is one of the world's largest processor and graphics card manufacturers and makes the chipsets used in PS5 consoles. So, of course, any comments by AMD's CEO about the PS5 restocking situation will carry a lot of weight.

Of course, it is important not to get carried away and take Su's comments as a guarantee; Su had previously predicted that the PS5 inventory shortage would be resolved by late 2021, but unfortunately that has not happened. The console has remained unavailable since the first wave of reservations dropped in September 2020.

Additionally, other industry insiders have suggested that purchasing a PS5 or Xbox Series X will not be easy until 2023. In more positive news, Xbox's Phil Spencer also claims that inventory of Xbox Series X consoles is expected to stabilize in 2022. In other words, with any luck, the inventory shortages plaguing both next-generation consoles may be gone by this time next year.

Late 2022 is almost a full year away, which may frustrate those currently considering buying a PS5. However, we are thankful that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Furthermore, the worst of the inventory problems may begin to be resolved earlier, and by next summer, purchasing a PS5 may become a much easier, if not yet completely hassle-free, process.
