The OnePlus Buds Z2 offers 38 hours of battery life and ANC at an amazingly low price

The newly released OnePlus Buds Z2 looks like a serious bargain. In fact, it has the potential to top our list of best cheap wireless earbuds.

The OnePlus 9T is a new entry-level flagship phone that will only be available in China and India; the international release of the Buds Z2 has yet to be announced, but the original Buds Z was released in the US and UK, so hopefully OnePlus will do the same this time. I hope OnePlus will do the same this time.

If you are in China, the Buds Z2 will be available starting October 19 for RMB 499. Direct currency conversion would be about $77 or 56 pounds. Given that the current OnePlus Buds Z is priced at $50/55 pounds, perhaps the second-generation Buds Z will see a slight price increase with its enhanced features. Available in black and white this time around, the biggest changes to the Buds Z2 are three microphones per earphone instead of the previous two, and 11mm drivers that are the same size as the drivers in the OnePlus Buds Pro.

As before, the Buds Z2 has active noise cancellation (ANC) and a transparent mode for when you want to focus on the outside world. Considering the low price of this Buds, the fact that it offers ANC is very impressive.

The battery life claims are particularly impressive: OnePlus says the Buds Z2 lasts a total of 27 hours with the charging case and ANC on, and 38 hours with ANC off. This is about the same as the Buds Pro and is also the duration of our current pick for the best wireless earbuds, the Jabra Elite Active 75T.

Dolby Atmos will also be supported on ColorOS phones, including Oppo devices and future OnePlus devices; Oppo and OnePlus are currently merging, which is why OnePlus is talking about compatibility with an OS it did not currently design. This is why.

Buds Z2 will also feature Bluetooth 5.2 and IP55 dust and water resistance; OnePlus has also promised wireless latency of less than 100ms, which will allow for more responsive sound when watching movies or playing games.

OnePlus may have picked an interesting time to release new earbuds. This is because there are rumors that Apple will unveil the AirPods 3 at its upcoming Unleashed event next week. These new buds are said to offer a new shape like the AirPods Pro and could support ANC and Dolby Atmos like the OnePlus Buds Z2. However, the price will likely be much higher than the Buds Z2, making the OnePlus product at least a little more advantageous for users on a limited budget.
