After years of silence, developer Rocksteady finally admitted last year that its next film is Suicide Squad: Bring on the Justice League!

The British developer lifted the lid on its next game at the DC Fandome presentation in the summer of 2020, but since then the studio has returned to being frustratingly tight-lipped about the project. The latest preview video (also shown at the DC Fandome event) showed little (if any) gameplay, but we did get to see a few visuals.

At least a 2022 release window is known, and it has been confirmed that the game will be drawn from the same world as Rocksteady's Batman Arkham series, and that it will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Considering that James Gunn's film Suicide Squad will be released this year, it seems that this DC villain squad is truly experiencing a golden age of interest. At the very least, we would be shocked if there is not some kind of cross-promotion between the two film releases.

But until then, here's everything we currently know about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

"Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League" is coming to DC in August 2020. Fundome virtual event and was given a vague release date of 2022.

Since then, we have heard nothing more concrete. However, Gotham Knights, a co-op action-adventure game developed by WB Montreal, was originally scheduled for this year, but was pushed back to 2022 due to the ongoing pandemic.

It is possible that Rocksteady's work is similarly affected, or that WB does not want to release two of DC's signature games in one year: Kill the Justice League, which, unfortunately, may itself be delayed.

So far, however, Rocksteady has made no statements to indicate that this game will change from its current 2022 release schedule. Expect it to be Q1 2022 rather than Q4.

On August 20, 2020, Rocksteady showed its take on "Suicide Squad" for the first time in a mood-lifting CGI trailer.

The trailer confirmed that the game takes place in Metropolis, Superman's permanent home, and this time the members of the squad could be seen: Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark. They are Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark.

Amanda Waller has been confirmed as the unit's handler, and Brainiac has been teased as a major antagonist. Worse, the evil mastermind seems to control the members of the Justice League, and in this case, the Man of Steel himself appears to be controlled by a supervillain.

As the name implies, it seems the only way the Suicide Squad can save the day is to kill the Justice League. Good luck with that.

We don't know much about the "Suicide Squad" story: we don't know much more about the "Take down the Justice League" story than what is told in the trailer.

Of course, by its very nature, it features an unwilling group of anti-heroes and villains who are forced to save the world against overwhelming odds or face death by an explosive device planted in their heads. In this case, it appears that Brainiac has been recruited by the Justice League to save the day by dominating the Justice League and wreaking havoc in Metropolis.

Since the game's subtitle is "Take down the Justice League" rather than "Take down Superman," it is almost certain that more members of the legendary superhero team will appear. The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and of course Batman are sure to appear in some form.

We know that the game is set in the same world as Rocksteady's "Batman Arkham" series, so it is quite possible that at some point in the story players will return to Gotham City or that additional characters from that series will appear.

We know that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be a cooperative action game where you can team up with a friend as one of four playable characters. What is also almost certain is that the game will be played from a third-person perspective.

Each member of the squad will have unique weapons and skills, as well as different traversing abilities to move around the game world. For players who wish to take down the Justice League alone, single-player play is also available.

The game takes place in an open world called Metropolis, which is described as the game's "fifth character," but there may be opportunities to visit other iconic locations in the DC Universe.

The gameplay is broadly similar to the system in Rocksteady's popular Batman Arkham, and it is reasonable to expect fluid combat and several large boss battles. It is also possible that Rocksteady took inspiration from Crystal Dynamics' "Marvel's Avengers".

Rocksteady's parent company, Warner Bros. Interactive, has been touting live-service games extensively lately, claiming that the upcoming project will have a "live-service focused" component.

Hopefully, if Rocksteady and WB decide to choose the live service model, it will be because it is best suited for "Suicide Squad: Bring Down the Justice League," and not simply because it is currently in vogue. I hope that's the case.

So far, at least four members of the Suicide Squad have been confirmed: Harley Quinn (voiced by Tara Strong), Captain Boomerang (voiced by rumored Chris Parson), King Shark (WWE wrestler Nouforau Joel Sianoa), Deadshot (voice actor unknown, but not Will Smith).

It is not known if regular Suicide Squad members such as Rick Flag, Killer Croc, and Katana will appear. James Gunn's somewhat wild selection of people from the upcoming film version of Suicide Squad, such as Polka Dot Man, is unlikely to appear, perhaps with only subtle easter eggs or winking references.

It seems doubtful that the game will offer any more playable characters. After all, it is a four-player co-op game, so adding more characters would mean benching at least some of the cast, and Rocksteady would probably want to focus on the core group before adding to the roster.

However, more characters could be added as post-launch content. If the game adopts a live service model, this makes a lot of sense and thus requires a massive DLC drop to keep players coming back.

Outside of Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller, Brainiac, and (possessed) Superman have been confirmed to appear, but the caped Crusader may also make an appearance.
