God of War Coming to PC in Full 4K60fps Glory — What You Need to Know

God of War, currently ranked #2 on our list of the best games of the decade, is coming to PC in January, with full 4K 60fps visuals and Nvidia DLSS support.

Sony made the announcement in a post on the PlayStation Blog. In it, the company touts that the PC version of God of War will have a true 4K resolution. This is a technique where the game is run at half the intended resolution and the other half is rendered using software interpolation. This technique is often a great way to get 4K images on less expensive hardware, as seen in many PS4 Pro games, but it can also come with strange graphic artifacts. Sony also touts that PCs have the option to support 60 fps, similar to Nvidia's DLSS.

On PC, gamers will have the option for improved shadows, screen space reflections, and enhanced ambient occlusion (more realistic lighting) technology such as GTAO and SSDO.

Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) is an AI-based upscaling technique that is also available to PC gamers with RTX cards. This technique allows even low-power GPUs to upscale smartly to 4K. Also included is Nvidia's Reflex low-latency technology, which enhances game responsiveness, a nice addition for action-combat games like God of War.

On PCs, those with ultrawide displays will also be able to enjoy games in a 21:9 frame. Unfortunately, ultra-ultrawide displays with an aspect ratio of 32:9 do not appear to be supported. However, the ultra-wide gaming community usually develops mods that add support later.

Sony also confirmed that the PC version of God of War will support the PS4 DualShock 4 and PS5 DualSense wireless controllers and "other gamepads." Sony did not elaborate, but it would not be surprising if Xbox Series X controllers would also work. Finally, the PC version of God of War will include the following additional digital content:

The PC version of God of War will be released on January 14, 2022. Sony did not announce a price, but the game will likely cost $59.99.
