Sony's PlayStation, long known as an exclusive gaming brand, appears to be opening its doors to the world of PC gaming.

Initially pointed out by a sharp-eyed user on the Restera forums, and subsequently confirmed by me, PlayStation-exclusive games that have been or are being ported to the PC are currently on Steam under the name/label "PlayStation PC LLC" It is publicly available. Previously it was PlayStation Mobile.

So it looks like the trend of PS4 exclusive games coming to PC is about to begin, fingers crossed for a PC version of "Bloodborne".

Where once the idea of first-party PlayStation games appearing anywhere but on PlayStation consoles seemed to remain the fever dream of cross-platform advocates, now Sony seems a little more willing to bring PS4-era exclusive games to the PC A situation that makes us look a little glad that Sony is doing just that.

We've already seen the much-touted PS4 exclusive "Horizon Zero Dawn" come to PC last year. And now, arguably one of the best PlayStation exclusives ever, and indeed one of the best games ever, "God of War" is coming to PC on January 14, 2022: Legacy of Thieves Collection will be released at some point next year.

Currently, the label "PlayStation PC" strongly suggests that this series of PlayStation games is just the beginning of Sony's spillover to the PC. This may infuriate some rabid PlayStation fans who may believe that the best PS4 games should remain locked into the console and PS5 backward compatibility mode. But as much as both consoles hold a special place in my gaming life, I think this is great news.

Currently, not many PS4 games have been optimized for the PS5; The Last Us 2 and God of War have 60fps patches, and several other games look and run better on PS5 than PS4. However, the extent of this enhanced support is minor compared to the comprehensive backwards compatibility and optimization offered by the Xbox Series X.

I wasn't overly fussed about this, as Sony is more intent on devoting resources to making new games than improving old ones, until I played "Bloodborne.

While I suck at it, it's one of my favorite games. Sadly, it often runs sluggishly on the PS4, and the PS5 has not improved its performance. I'm still waiting for the PS5 patch, but maybe the PC version will fix this problem.

Finding powerful PC parts like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 may be a nightmare at this point, but even a gaming PC a few years old has enough power to grab PS4 games by the neck and drag them into the performance metrics expected in 2021 The performance of a PC is not a matter of time, but of power.

In the case of "Bloodborne," this means running the game at 4K and hitting 60 fps or better. Furthermore, imagine Bloodborne running at a frame rate that can take advantage of a 144 Hz display. While this may not allow for reworking textures and graphics features, it could open "Bloodborne" up to the PC game modding community to polish the game (not that "Bloodborne" looks bad).

The finished version of "Bloodborne" may have made a few graphical concessions in order to run on the PS4. Therefore, the PC version may feature graphic effects and settings that were cut from the PS4 version.

This is all speculation from a man who just doesn't want to play "Bloodborne" at 60fps, miss a dodge and have his character cut in half by an abominable beast, and suffer long load times every time he is sent back to the last ramp (aka save point).

However, it has been confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn gets certain PC settings. So I see no reason why the same could not be done for other PlayStation games being ported to the PC, even if they require a seemingly disproportionate amount of power to run well.

In short, PlayStation games being ported to the PC may be a strange frontier for Sony, but it is an exciting one. It also means that people who don't want to subject themselves to the daunting experience of looking for a PS5 restock will not necessarily be left out in the cold when it comes to playing some of the best games available.
