One of the most useful changes we expect to see in the iPhone 14 is the USB-C port Given that many of our everyday devices use USB-C, Apple's smartphones are anathema, sticking to their own Lightning port on each generation of iPhone, despite Apple's use of USB-C on the iPad and MacBook
While the iPhone 13 is still a very new phone, iPhone 14 rumors have already begun, and the move to USB-C is one of the most prominent hints Now iDropNews leaker LeaksApplePro claims that inside sources have tipped him off about an iPhone 14 Pro with a USB-C port
This is a tough one to chew on; LeaksApplePro has a more complicated record when it comes to leaks than other tech tipsters, and there have been conflicting rumors around the iPhone 14 going the USB-C route
Jon Prosser, a relatively reliable leaker, claims that the iPhone 14 will stick with the Lighting port, but may undergo radical design changes, notably eliminating the display notch and adopting Touch ID
But there are also rumors that the iPhone 14 may be completely portless, with Apple leaning heavily toward using MagSafe wireless charging In our opinion, this seems a bit premature and outlandish But whether it will be Lightning or USB-C remains to be seen
Another interesting piece of information from LeaksApplePro is that only the iPhone 14 Pro series will have USB-C, which seems to exclude the standard iPhone 14 LeaksApplePro's justification for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would benefit from higher transfer speeds, especially since they would likely support the ProRes video format
There are enough differences between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, mostly related to the display and camera In contrast, the ports are more practical than professional And having a series of iPhones with different connection types would be confusing to customers and impractical for Apple's production line
Therefore, we believe that if Apple is indeed going to include a USB-C port on the iPhone 14, it will be on all devices in the iPhone series, not just the Pro model And there are indications in the tech industry that this will be the case
Because the European Union is enacting new legislation aimed at forcing technology manufacturers to standardize device charging by 2024 in order to reduce e-waste and customer dissatisfaction USB-C would be the logical port for that And since Apple supports environmentally friendly production and recycling and has a large customer base in Europe, there is a good chance that it will adopt USB-C charging as soon as possible, ahead of EU legislation
This is our speculation, as Apple does not comment on the devices it is working on However, applying logic to the claimed leaks and other rumors, it seems likely that the iPhone 14 will be the first iPhone to move away from the Lightning port
USB-C charging is not the only iPhone 14 rumor; the latest note from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, seen by MacRumors, indicates that the next iPhone will support Wi-Fi 6E
This is not the first time Kuo has made this claim, but it reinforces rumors that the iPhone 14 will feature wireless connectivity for faster connections
Faster Wi-Fi connectivity may not seem that exciting, given that the current iPhone has had no problems with Wi-Fi speeds What is interesting here, however, is that Wi-Fi 6E is believed to provide the high-speed wireless communication needed to work well with augmented and virtual reality experiences
We may also see the iPhone 14 with Wi-Fi 6E working in conjunction with a mixed reality device, as Apple is reportedly working on AR and VR headsets as well as Apple Glasses smart glasses
Given the above, the iPhone 14 could come with a new design, new features, and perhaps up to 2TB of storage, hopefully checking out the upgrades we want in the iPhone 14
We will have to wait a while for the iPhone 14 to make its official debut, most likely in September 2022 However, if these rumors do come to fruition, skipping the iPhone 13 and purchasing the iPhone 14 may end up being a wise choice
