In January, LG promised that Nvidia's GeForce Now would be available on some TVs, and now the feature is available in a beta version on some 2021 models.

According to LG, this beta version is available on "select 2021 LG 4K OLED, QNED Mini LED, and NanoCell TV models in 80 markets." According to a footnote at the bottom of the page, a full list of supported models will be released "at a later date."

For those unfamiliar, GeForce Now allows users to stream games from a powerful computer in the cloud. The connected device, be it a Chromebook or a TV, is essentially a good-looking screen on which Nvidia's remote system does the important work.

Unlike Google Stadia or Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia's solution plugs into existing Steam and Epic Games libraries.

In theory, GeForce Now's inclusion in LG's TVs is good news for high-end panel owners but suffering from GPU and PS5 inventory shortages. However, the devil is in the details, and there are a few things to note.

First, not only does GeForce Now on WebOS only support 2-channel stereo, but visuals are limited to 1080p and 60fps, which may not be ideal for large 65" and 77" 4K panels.

More importantly, the beta version supports "compatible controllers," but does not appear to include keyboard and mouse connectivity, making it an incomplete solution for traditional PC gamers.

If these points seem like a deal-breaker, you can purchase the 2019 Nvidia Shield, which supports 4K GeForce Now streams, 7.1 audio, mouse, and keyboard. Plus, of course, it's compatible with TVs and monitors with free HDMI ports.
