Luxury sleep brand Saatva makes some of the most attractive handcrafted mattresses in the United States, and through December 14, Saatva's cheapest option for adults, the Modern Foam Mattress, is discounted up to $219. Modern Foam quietly appeared this year and is a medium-firm foam and latex mattress especially suited for couples and side sleepers.

In this limited-time 10% off sale, the Modern Foam is $715.50 for a twin size and $1,345.50 for a queen size. In other words, even though this is Saatva's cheapest adult mattress, it is only slightly cheaper than the award-winning Classic (currently marked down to $798 at Saatva), which is at the top of our Best Mattresses guide.

The Saatva Modern Foam is covered with a quilted organic cotton cover and consists of layers of polyfoam, gel-filled memory foam, and open-cell polyfoam for breathability. Natural latex provides zoned lumbar support, and the plump top relieves pressure points (hips, shoulders, and knees) when sleeping on your side. 10% off is quite a bargain, but Saatva warns that the price will change on December 14.

Saatva makes handmade American mattresses, and we have slept for over a year on their most famous product, the Classic luxury spring mattress. It is an excellent mattress and the price is not much higher than modern foam. In fact, Modern Foam is only $3 less than Classic in the Twin XL size and $6 less in the Split King, but $100 less in most other sizes. [Saatva Modern Foam also focuses on cooling, as it should. Hot sleepers typically escape a mile from foam beds because they are notorious for trapping heat, but that's not the case here (or in any of the best memory foam mattresses). That's because Saatva uses memory foam with cooling gel and breathable natural latex, plus breathable foam that draws excess heat away from the body.

There are many other cooling-only mattresses, some much cheaper, such as the Cocoon by Sealy Chill mattress (Cocoon's all-foam Chill starts at $499). But if you want a Sertova that is contoured, comfortable, cooling, made of foam and latex, and without a single coil, the Modern Foam is a good choice.

You can also do a 180-night trial at home to see if it is right for you. If you change your mind during the trial period, Saatva will refund your money, but there is a $99 fee for returns. The warranty period is also 12 years, which is above the average for foam mattresses (10 years). [Saatva offers free delivery to the bedroom of your choice.
