Don't expect to play Star Wars eclipse anytime soon — here's why

"Star Wars Eclipse" was arguably one of the biggest announcements at the Game Awards 2021. Developed by French studio Quantic Dream, Eclipse is an "intricately branching action-adventure game" set in the High Republic era of Star Wars canonical history.

All of this is quite exciting stuff, and the level of enthusiasm from the rabid Star Wars community is already at an all-time high. Unfortunately, the news that it will be at least three to four years before "Star Wars Eclipse" is released has dampened some of this anticipation.

This information comes from reputable leaker Tom Henderson, who reported additional information about "Eclipse" after its announcement; Henderson noted that controversial industry luminary David Cage is "very heavily involved,"

and that he is "very much involved in the development of Star Wars Eclipse. involved," and suggests that Quantic Dream is currently struggling to hire enough staff to produce the game, which will undoubtedly lead to production problems and delays. [According to Henderson, another problem facing the Quantic Dream team is that "Eclipse" is a video game that is very different from the company's specialty. While Quantic Dreams is known for making games that emphasize cinematic storytelling and are light on gameplay, "Eclipse" is a more ambitious title and cannot necessarily be made with the team's existing development tools. It will take time to develop.

It has not gone unnoticed that the game's polished, cinematic announcement trailer did not offer even a vague release year. It is safe to say that it is highly unlikely that "Eclipse" will be released in the near future. The trailer did not even confirm on which platform the game would eventually be released -- PS5, Xbox Series X, or PC seem like safe bets.

Additionally, a blog post on the Star Wars website announced that the game is "currently in the early stages of development," which also appears to support Henderson's claim. All evidence certainly points to a game that still has a lot of development work left to do. The idea that "Star Wars Eclipse" will not be playable until 2025 or 2026, or even later, is definitely plausible.

This news will disappoint Star Wars fans. Some may also question why the announcement has already been made when the release is still some time away. Nevertheless, while we wait for more news, we will have to watch the announcement trailer over and over again.
