Battlefield 6 cross-platform bomb is a blow for PS5 and Xbox series Xbox

EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 will not be limited to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but will be cross-platform on PS4 and Xbox One. The news comes as a blow to fans who were hoping for a true next-gen experience for the franchise, which will be revived this year.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the multiplatform release during an earnings call this week, saying the game "will be available on both current and next-generation consoles, just like our sports titles."

After rumors that "Battlefield 6" may be exclusive to the new consoles, this fact raises questions as to what next-generation console improvements the game will actually receive.

Wilson's bombshell has sparked dialogue on Twitter, with some fans feeling disappointed with past statements like the above tweet from Geoff Keighley, who has positioned Battlefield 6 as a "true next-gen game."

In a ResetEra thread sharing the news, gamers lamented the cross-platform announcement, with gaming journalist and former Kinda Funny co-host Imran Khan overlaying the update with Keighley's tweet, highlighted the part where he called Battlefield 6 a "true next-gen game."

Addressing previous remarks about new games made for this new console generation, Wilson said: in our prepared remarks we specifically referred to the nature of gameplay, i.e., what can be done with game fidelity, physics, artificial intelligence, game immersion That's what we're talking about"

. [And in the case of Battlefield, the number of players that can be in the game, the nature of the destruction, the all-new Battlefield moment, etc., the increased processing power, memory, and output of next-gen consoles allows for what is truly a next-gen opportunity in the context of a next-gen franchise now.

It's not all bad news, as there are still some differences between the two versions; EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said that "Battlefield 6" will be "great" on all platforms, but "even better" on PS5 and Xbox Series X, he said it will be "even better" on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

However, he promised that more details will be released after the first trailer for Battlefield 6 is released in June, adding that "what the team was able to do in the context of the next generation consoles is incredible, the epic scale of the battles, the incredible number of players, the destruction is truly incredible and there are very innovative and creative modes for the future of the franchise," he added.
