HTC Vive Teaser Reveals - Oculus Quest2 Rivals on the way?

Remember HTC's Project Proton headset that made headlines a year ago? If the company's tweet is any indication, its launch may be closer than we think

HTC's Vive Twitter account posted a close-up image of a black matte surface that matches the glossy Vive logo emblem The tweet itself read, "It's your move"

That's all for now, but it's certainly enough to spark speculation among potential buyers about what will apparently be revealed in the near future HTC has been relatively low-key since it announced the HTC Vive Cosmos and Vive Cosmos Elite in 2020 It has kept a relatively low profile, but now another product appears to be gearing up for its debut

Around a recent tweet about a user's next "move" is a GIF from the "Dragon Ball Z" anime series, asking readers what they would do if they had more energy Another recent post calls on the community to share their dancing skills with VR dance clips These may be too on the nose to mean anything, but it is possible that this new product is all about fluidity and movement, if any

Currently, we know very little about what HTC Vive has in store, with the exception of the Cosmos Play, a cheaper version of the Cosmos series, and the smaller, more compact Project Proton

We learned about Project Proton in early 2020, when CEO Yves Maitre called the new lightweight headset "really, really close to regular glasses" At the time, Engadget shared renderings that seemed to suggest such a structure, with an apparently compact appearance that could ostensibly be used for more than a VR interface -- not to mention a rival to the Oculus Quest standalone headset, AR could also be a great alternative to glasses

The first rendering of Project Proton was reminiscent of every old VR headset we've seen on the market, while the second rendering looked more like safety goggles than a typical VR device Unfortunately, little (if any) information is available about what HTC is up to next, beyond a brief look at what may be just around the corner

No release date or expected event surrounding HTC's teaser tweet was specified But it is clear that HTC is about to make a move, and we will be watching with open eyes to see what comes next
