Xiaomi says that the problem with the cache will allow the camera users to see other feeds on Google's nest hub

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi blamed a caching issue after users of its Mi/Mijia home security camera reported seeing still images from others' cameras on the Google Nest Hub to which their cameras are linked.

"We are aware that there was an issue with receiving still images while the Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p was connected to the Google Home hub," Xiaomi said in a statement provided to The Register.

"We found that this issue was caused by a cache update made on December 26, 2019 to improve the streaming quality of the camera. This has only happened in extremely rare circumstances," the statement added." In this case, it happened during the integration between the Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p and the Google Home Hub, with the display screen in poor network conditions."

Google disabled integration with all Xiaomi Mi Home devices hours after "Dio-V," the owner of the Mijia camera, posted the issue on a Reddit board dedicated to Google Home. Dio-V, who lives in the Netherlands, posted several images obtained from the Google Nest Hub on Cnet, including images of a sleeping man and a sleeping baby. (Americans can purchase a very similar model on Amazon for about $40.)

Mr. Dio-V is the only user with such problems, but Xiaomi told The Register that it found "1,044 units with such integration" with the Google Nest Hub, . a few units with extremely poor network conditions may have been affected."

He added that "if the camera is integrated with Xiaomi's Mi Home app, this issue does not occur."

Android Police reported that his Mi Home device no longer worked with his Google Home device, stating that Dio-V told him that his Mi camera and Google Nest Hub no longer communicate with each other.

Xiaomi said it had "contacted Google and fixed this issue," but did not say when compatibility between Mi Home and Google Home would be restored.
