For a variety of reasons, Segway's original personal transporter never really took off Nevertheless, Segway's latest incarnation, the S-Pod, solves that vexing problem Sitting in its cocoon-like shell, the S-Pod balances on two wheels and can travel at speeds of up to 24 miles per hour

Unlike the original Segway, however, S-Pod riders do not need to lean forward or backward to control the S-Pod's movements Rather, they control it with a joystick and navigation display; small wheels on the front of the S-Pod make it easier for the rider to get off and off the vehicle, but Segway's S-Pod announcement does not specifically mention that the ride is intended for people with disabilities

Nor is there any mention of the S-Pod's price and release date

The S-Pod will be on display at CES 2020 next week, where we plan to try it out At the show, Segway will also have a number of other electric scooters and bicycles on display

Segway will also unveil its Ninebot Apex concept electric bike, which the company says has a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h)

Aside from the practicality of the S-Pod, the expansion of Segway's product lineup is further evidence that electric scooters and mopeds are gaining more traction
