LAS VEGAS - Lifx makes some of the best smart lights to illuminate indoor spaces, and at CES 2020 the company expanded its portfolio with a dedicated lighting kit to spice up the average gaming setup
The Lifx Z Gamer Kit is a set of LED strips that stick to the back of a TV or gaming monitor The kit is priced at $6999 and includes two 50cm polychrome strips and discrete connectors
While many light strips are already available and widely deployed in gaming rigs, we have yet to see a major smart light brand target gamers with a dedicated product we asked David Kavanagh of Lifx how the Lifx Z Gamer Kit
"We've already seen the Lifx Z Gamer Kit in action," Kavanagh said
"It was a natural extension of the light strip kits we already sell," Kavanagh said
"The Lifx Z Gamer strips are designed to fit most gaming monitors
He added that Lifx pays attention to customer feedback and viral "rate my rig" shout outs
In November 2019, Razer launched the Lifx Chroma Connector, which connects Lifx smart lights to Razer Chroma devices for an immersive lighting experienceSimilar to the Philips Hue Play Sync, the Chroma platform allows Lifx lights to transform, match, and reflect the gaming experience on the screen
What is special about the Chroma Connector, however, is that the SDK is free to download; even though it is a Razer gaming device, no additional hardware is required
At CES, Lifx also introduced a vintage-style filament bulb and a white-to-warm candle bulb The latter is similar to the Lifx Candle Color, but illuminates a more natural range Both new bulbs cost $2999 and will be available in spring 2020
