Clamshell Galaxy Fold 2 is actually called Galaxy Bloom (Report)

The New Year is upon us, and with it comes a new phone for Samsung And those phones will apparently have new names

This is news leaked from a closed-door meeting between Samsung and its partners at CES 2020: as Sammobile found out, according to Korean newspaper Ajunews, Samsung told its partners that the Galaxy Fold 2 will actually be called Galaxy Bloom, and that the next flagship phone, expected to be the Galaxy S11, will be called the Galaxy S20

This is not the first time that Samsung is talking about going in a different direction with the name of its Galaxy S flagship; in late December, it was reported that the new phone would be called the Galaxy S20 Ultra

Why the change, Ajunews reports, is because the Galaxy S series has entered a new decade since its debut a decade ago In addition, it appears that Samsung will be launching a regular, plus, and ultra model (The name Galaxy S20 Ultra has also surfaced)

As for the successor to the Galaxy Fold, Samsung seems to have settled on the name Galaxy Bloom, as the flip phone's design is reminiscent of a flower opening posted by Ajunews The image shows a flower on the screen of the foldable phone, replacing the butterfly motif that Samsung used to promote the Galaxy Fold

It is not hard to see why Samsung would want to move away from the Galaxy Fold name, given the trouble it had when it launched the foldable phone last year Also, if Samsung were to adopt a new design (the phone reportedly flips open rather than folds like a book), it would probably think it needed a new name [Ajunews reports that Samsung wants it to be reminiscent of the cosmetic compacts made popular by French cosmetics brand Lancome At least according to this report, Samsung is trying to target women in their 20s with this new foldable phone

The report also claims that both the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Bloom will support 8K video recording, which is not a new detail for the S20 (or S11) Previous reports have suggested that 8K video will be one of the featured features of the upcoming flagship phones, which is something that Samsung's upcoming Snapdragon 865 processor in the upcoming phones can support

Whether these name changes will indeed take place will be known in about a month Samsung has scheduled a press event for February 11, at which time the Galaxy S11 No, it is expected that both the Galaxy S20 and the foldable Galaxy Bloom will appear
