New Sony PS5 Trademark Tips at the Event revealed Imminent

There is no doubt that the PS5 is almost here, but when we will see it in the flesh remains to be seen. One leak suggests that the PS5 will be announced in February, but this is a sketchy source, and the date is ticking closer and closer, with no sign of a PlayStation meeting. But there is still reason to expect big news in the immediate future.

That reason is a Sony trademark found by LetsGoDigital. The patent, filed on January 27 with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, applies to the name "PS5." The sections applied to this trademark all relate to games, interactive entertainment, and computer software, in case you thought Sony was going to release a completely different kind of product called PS5.

If you are confused, Sony had already trademarked the PS5 name in 2006, but this filing appears to be a last-ditch attempt to bolster their intellectual property.

We already knew that Sony's next console would be called the PlayStation 5 in a 2019 blog post, and the company unveiled the PS5 logo (which, surprisingly, looks a lot like the PS4) at CES 2020. While we never expected Sony to say anything at CES rather than at its own event, this small piece of news whetted gamers' appetite for more meaningful announcements.

This hopefully means that an announcement is on the horizon that will officially reveal the PS5 to the world; Xbox has already shown off the Xbox Series X, meaning that the ball is in Sony's court for the time being until the two new consoles go head-to-head in late 2020 ...
