A new PS5 game has been confirmed! Rainbow Six Siege hits PlayStation 5 with launch

As the PS5 and Xbox Series X gear up for launch in the holiday 2020 season, details are emerging about the titles each console will include: the PS5 will include PlayStation 5-exclusive titles (such as loot slasher Godfall) and Cross-platform games are known to be included from the start.

The Xbox Series X will not include exclusive titles, but will include games like "Senua's Saga: Hellblade II" and "Halo: Infinite" that are designed to be played across Microsoft's family of consoles.

Next-gen launch titles are a secret waiting in the wings, but Ubisoft game director Leroy Athanassof is aiming for a next-gen port of "Rainbow Six Siege" to be a launch title for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. He revealed: "[PS5 and Xbox Series X] are going to be launch titles. They will decide when the consoles will be released; for Siege, our goal is to offer it at the same time as it launches.

Athanassof shared another tidbit during the interview, revealing that "Rainbow Six Siege" will feature cross-generational multiplayer. If your buddies don't have a PS5 and you buy one on day one, you can log in and play with them, even if they are using previous generation technology.

This is a feature designed to avoid "community fragmentation." However, it is also reminiscent of Microsoft's decision to avoid next-generation console exclusives until 2022 in order to give gamers time to transition from current-generation consoles to new technology.

One of the most requested features of the PS5 is backward compatibility, as gamers are eager to be able to play their library games on the new console. While Sony's commitment to its back catalog is uncertain, the news that Rainbow Six Siege will feature cross-generational play may suggest that the PS5 will be compatible with at least some PS4 games.

Athanassof even hopes to link the PlayStation and Xbox consoles for the first time so that gamers can eventually play across systems. For now, however, that remains a pipe dream.

With another next-generation console launch title in the works, all eyes are now on the PS5, which has yet to be officially announced. We already know quite a bit about Microsoft's next generation console, and I expect the PS5 to be announced at the end of this month. I am very much looking forward to it.
