According to AMD, the PS5 should be the beast of ray tracing

Thanks to the positive reception of the PS4, the PS5 carries high expectations. However, it was believed that Sony's new console could be at a significant graphic disadvantage compared to the Xbox Series X.

Wccftech, reporting on processor graphics card maker AMD's Financial Day, has some new information on the graphics capabilities of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.

AMD's new PS5 is expected to be the most powerful console in the world.

AMD's GPUs are found in both the PS4 and Xbox One, meaning a new generation of gaming console components to run them. While the next Xbox will use RDNA 2, the next PlayStation was previously rumored to use the older version, which could result in a significant performance loss.

Fortunately, it appears that Sony will use the RDNA 2 chip in the PS5. David Wang is quoted by Wccftech as saying: [It is a common architecture used in next generation game consoles. This will greatly simplify content development. Developers can develop on one platform and easily port to other platforms. This will definitely help accelerate the adoption [of ray tracing]."

The reference to a "next-generation console" rather than a single "console" and to porting between platforms could be interpreted to mean that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will employ the same technology.
