The PS5 and Xbox Series X were always going to battle for spec supremacy, but now it is the console's teraflops that is the subject of great speculation: we know what the Xbox can do, but not what the PS5 can do, and new rumors suggest that Microsoft's new machine in this department could potentially beat it.

A 4chan leak (via CCN.com) claims, among other things, that the PS5 will have a "13.3TF Custom RDNA 2 GPU."

Xbox chief Phil Spencer announced that the Xbox Series X will have a 12 teraflop GPU so this rumor points to the PS5 being more powerful in a very important performance area.

However, previous rumors have put a different number on the PS5's graphics potential. The lowest estimate has been 9 teraflops, while the highest has been 14 teraflops. This range means that the new console should have no problem surpassing the PS4's 1.84 teraflops and the PS4 Pro's 4.2 teraflops, but it could also mean that it will lag behind or surpass the Xbox Series X.

The leaked information also mentions an AMD Zen 2 8-core CPU that Sony hopes to boost from 3.4GHz to 3.7GHz, 16GB DDR6 RAM and 4GB DDR4 RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Besides the internal components, the PS5 will have a DualShock 5 controller with tactile triggers, heart rate monitor, and built-in microphone, Leaker claims (we have seen patents on the controller's tactile and player monitoring capabilities). Earlier rumors also suggested a PlayStation AI voice assistant and backward compatibility with all of Sony's previous consoles, but it is unclear from the wording whether this would include the handheld PSP and PS Vita consoles.

However, there is good reason to doubt the source of this claim, as CCN points to the Twitter account JustAnLED, which tweeted the full 4chan post. As noted below, the purported leak claims that the PS5 will be announced on March 3. One wonders how accurate the rest of the claims are.

We have no idea when we will hear a proper announcement from Sony regarding the PS5, with only a vague "Holiday 2020" release date giving a rough deadline. However, with Microsoft about to announce more information about the Xbox Series X during next week's live streaming, expect specs to be revealed soon.
