PS5 will not be delayed by the coronavirus, Sony says

Concerns about the PS5 release date should quiet down, at least for a while. The coronavirus pandemic has led to speculation that the release of Sony's big next-generation game console will be further delayed--perhaps to 2021--but that should not be the case.

A Sony representative told Bloomberg that there will be "no noticeable impact" on the release of the PS5, which is scheduled to launch during the 2020 holiday season.

This quote is not exactly corroborated, as we do not know what Sony considers a "noticeable impact."

Relatedly, Microsoft strongly insists that the Xbox Series X release date will not move. Specifically, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told CNBC that production of the key consumer product is "on track."

More recently, Sony delved deeper into the PS5 system architecture, which some found disappointing. While Sony announced key features such as a fast-loading 825 SSD and a powerful 10.3 GPU, some fans were hoping for a more flashy event with more news about the upcoming system's design, features, and game lineup.

Those who care about release dates are not only concerned about which will be ready in time for the 2020 holiday season. It's because the system that launches first may secure the lead in this generation's console wars.
