The design of the iPhone12 kills the notch - and contains a big surprise

The iPhone 12 is the most anticipated phone of the year First we heard that the new 5G iPhone could be delayed a few months - and possibly pushed back to 2021 Then there were reports that the iPhone 12 was still expected to be released in the fall

Whenever the iPhone 12 arrives, we have a pretty clear picture of what to expect: two iPhone 12 models with 54-inch and 61-inch displays, and two iPhone 12 Pro models are reportedly in the works And one designer has revealed what the iPhone 12 Pro could look like if Apple decides to do away with the notch altogether

Graphic designer Donel Bagrov has posted several images of the iPhone 12 Pro, and they are largely consistent with the leaked specs we have seen so far However, there are two features here that deviate significantly from previous iPhone 12 rumors and leaks

In terms of what to expect, the iPhone 12 Pro that has been revealed has a display refresh rate of 120Hz, presumably using the ProMotion technology found in the new iPad Pro 2020 This allows the iPhone to automatically adjust the refresh rate, saving battery life In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S20 forces 120Hz to be turned on manually

Where's the notch? The notch is nowhere to be seen in this iPhone 12 Pro concept, and while we have heard that the notch may be reduced in the iPhone 12, few predictions have been made that the notch will disappear That said, it would be great to see a true all-screen iPhone 12 Samsung Display is working on a display with an invisible camera for its own future phones and other partners, but there is no clear timeline

On the back, the iPhone 12 Pro concept features four cameras, including a main 64MP sensor, an ultra-wide camera with optical image stabilization, a dedicated portrait camera, and a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom The latter sensor will allow the iPhone 12 Pro to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, which features 4x optical zoom and 10x hybrid lossless zoom Finally, there is the LiDAR scanner, which would help the performance of AR apps

The second big surprise of this iPhone 12 Pro concept is what the designers call Slide and TapTap This phone has no mechanical buttons Instead, there appears to be a taptic button for power on the right edge of the phone and a volume slider on the left edge A double tap toggles the ringtone on and off

Other features shown in the iPhone 12 Pro design include a new 5nm processor (presumably the A14 Bionic) and a "reverse charge" feature The latter feature would allow the back of an iPhone or AirPods or AirPods Pro to charge another phone; Android phones have had reverse wireless charging for some time, including the Galaxy S10 series last year

Last but not least, the iPhone 12 Pro comes in a dark teal color and looks great But we are hearing that Apple will add a dark blue iPhone 12 instead Do you think Apple will do away with the notch and physical buttons this year? No, but this design is still quite attractive and may become a reality with the iPhone 13
