PS5 Design Stans with the sleek look we've been waiting for

Despite the growing enthusiasm for the PS5, Sony has yet to reveal the console's design.

This latest rendering comes courtesy of Dan Pierce, senior motion and 3D designer at Future Publishing, who weaves together leaks and rumors he's heard so far to come up with a sleek-looking design As T3 noted, this design was heavily influenced by the PS5 dual-sense controller design unveiled by Sony.

In Pearce's concept, the PS5 is a relatively flat rectangular console with curved edges and a pseudo two-tone color scheme. The edges and lines are highlighted by bright blue LEDs, similar to those found on dual-sense controllers.

While the aforementioned controllers may be controversial, Pearce's design is undeniably lovely, seemingly minimalist, but littered with great detail. [For example, the Sony branding on the right side of the console is on two ridged edges of the console that are a bit reminiscent of the PS2 design, the LED strip is similar to that of the PS4, and the curved edges are not a million miles away from the PS3. In other words, this concept design looks like its own machine, even though it takes its cues from previous PlayStation consoles.

Pearce's design indicates that we can expect the PS5 to include a Blu-ray player and be capable of playing 4K UHD discs. Given Sony's rumored insistence on producing retail copies of next-generation console games, albeit in environmentally friendly packaging, it is expected that a disc drive will be included, even though there is a growing trend for games to become digital download only.

Pearce's PS5 design certainly stands out from the vertical boxy rectangle of Microsoft's Xbox Series X. The PS5 developer kit footprint is rectangular overall, but there is a large V-shaped notch in the center of the console that allows the console's powerful This is likely to ensure airflow to the components. It remains to be seen to what extent this development kit will be reflected in the final console design.

We hope that some of Pearce's concept design will be reflected in the final design of the PS5, but we will have to wait and see what Sony has built for the next PlayStation if they decide to reveal more details.
