A faster, lighter Oculus Quest may be in the works, as Facebook is reportedly working on a new virtual reality headset and redesigned controller

The Oculus Rift S and Oculus Go aren't going anywhere, but the wireless self-contained Oculus Quest could be redesigned, according to Bloomberg Not only are smaller, lighter, and faster display refresh rates expected, but multiple versions of the new headset are in development

The reason for the multiple models appears to be that Facebook has not finalized the design of its next VR headset Also, according to a person familiar with Facebook's VR plans, the new headset may be delayed by the coronavirus pandemic

The Oculus Quest debuted early last year and was lauded for offering an all-in-one VR experience that doesn't require a PC, gaming console, or smartphone connection However, its display proved to be a bit lacking in clarity, and a new display with an improved refresh rate could certainly remedy that

Facebook is apparently testing Quest with a display that has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, but the display panel may be clocked at 90 Hz so that the new headset does not consume battery power too quickly However, a 90Hz refresh rate would be an upgrade over the Oculus Quest's 60Hz panel
