PS5 Could Steal 1 of the Best Features of Xbox Series X

Sony's PS5 could rival one of the key selling points of the Xbox Series X, at least for certain games. That's thanks to game publishing giant EA.

As GamesRadar reported, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said on a conference call with investors that "this year's phasing includes the effect of revenue recognition for games that are released for current-generation consoles that are also free upgrades for next-generation consoles. He stated."

The above statement is a bit vague, but hopefully EA means that those who have their games on PS4 will have the ability to access the same games on PS5. However, it is also possible that EA does not clearly mean both consoles, but is only referring in a roundabout way to the Xbox Series X "Smart Delivery" program.

The Smart Delivery feature allows players to purchase Xbox One titles and get Xbox Series X counterparts for free. Even if this only applies to PS5 EA games, it would cover several huge franchises, including "Apex Legends," "FIFA," and "Madden."

If the PS5 and Xbox Series X are released around November this year, the two consoles could be a fairly even match: the Xbox is aiming for more gaming power with higher-spec hardware and Smart Delivery, while Sony's tactile controller DualSense, 3D sound, and custom SSDs to speed up game loading seem to be aiming for a more rounded experience.

Sony has been much quieter about the PS5 than Microsoft has been with the Xbox, but we will hear more about both in the coming weeks. In fact, Microsoft will begin its monthly series of announcements on Thursday, May 7, starting with a live gameplay demo of the new console.
