This pricey gaming rig attempts to justify its price ($3,050 for the cheapest model) with incredibly high-performance hardware, a gorgeous design, and enough ports for even the most demanding on-the-go gaming enthusiast. Not everyone will want to pay for the Area-51m R2, but those who do will be able to play some of the most demanding games on the market at high resolutions and fast frame rates.

The release date for the Alienware Area-51m R2 is June 9, and all configurations are available. This means that you can customize the model to your liking right from the start. (Several other machines in Alienware's lineup, by contrast, will be rolled out in a variety of configurations in stages.) Tom's Guide should have a model in stock for review around that time.

Before you read on, you might want to sit back: the Alienware Area-51m R2 starts at $3,050 and can go higher depending on options; Dell did not say how much the specific configuration will cost, but the Area-51m R2 has 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super GPU, and 4K 60Hz display options.

These probably won't come cheap. If you want all the bells and whistles available in the Area-51m R2, expect to spend $5,000 or more (for comparison, the most expensive Area-51m currently on the market is $5,500).

If you are familiar with the Alienware Area-51m, the R2 will not look much different. It's a 17-inch laptop with a silver plastic chassis and blue backlit keys. It has vents on the back, sides, and front, and the entire package weighs up to 10.4 pounds. This is a large laptop not for the faint of heart or weak of back.
