The sketchy PS5 leak makes fun of the backward compatibility of PS2, PS3, and PS4

According to a new retailer listing, the PS5 will be backward compatible with all PS4, PS3, and PS2 games. But take this with a grain of salt.

The startling claim comes from Turkish online retailer Hepsiburada (via sister site Laptop Mag). Its PS5 page makes the bold claim that Sony's new console is backward compatible all the way back to the PS2. This is something Sony has never mentioned about the PS5 before; it merely claims that the next-generation console will run PS4 games.

The ability to play 20 years' worth of games on a single console would be a considerable selling point for Sony; even the Xbox Series X only promises guaranteed backward compatibility with the Xbox One and with certain Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles .

However, this leak is almost certainly incorrect. Not only has Sony publicly stated that the PS5 aims to be backward compatible with 100 popular PS4 titles at launch, but the passage on the Hepsiburada page that made this claim has now been removed. Thanks to a screenshot attached to a NeoGAF post by user CurtBizzy, we can still see its contents.

In the unlikely event that Sony keeps this amazing compatibility feature quiet, perhaps they will tell us all about it at one of their upcoming summer events; Xbox has already released trailers for many third-party launch titles.

The PS5 appears to be a bit behind in terms of backwards compatibility for now, as the Xbox Series X aims to bring 4K resolution, HDR, and smooth 120 frame rates to older titles. So if Sony has a backward compatibility ace up its sleeve, it may want to show it sooner rather than later.
