According to recent reports, the Google Pixel 4a release date is currently in limbo and the model may be delayed to July or even August On the surface, this reported Pixel 4a delay does not look good for Google But it could be bad news for Apple and the iPhone 12
Considering what the Pixel 4a is likely to offer at the very low price of $349, the supposedly entry-level $649 iPhone 12 may seem pricey in comparison think about all the things you should get with the Pixel 4a Let's take a look
The Pixel 4a is rumored to feature a 58-inch OLED display, which would be larger than the entry-level iPhone 12's 54-inch panel The iPhone 12 should have the edge in terms of resolution, but it is unlikely that most shoppers will care about the iPhone's high pixel count
The Pixel 4a will also likely have 128GB of storage, which is twice as much as the iPhone SE and comparable to the leaked iPhone 12 specs
Apple has refused to adopt USB-C for fast charging, but the Pixel 4a should have a USB-C port like its predecessor and be capable of 18W charging iPhone 12 will reportedly stick with the Lightning port iPhone 11 ships with a 5W charger and only the iPhone 11 Pro offered an 18W fast charger out of the box
The Pixel 4a will likely have only one 12MP main camera, compared to the iPhone 12's wide and ultra-wide shooters However, Google has always been successful in delivering superior images with limited hardware thanks to its advanced computational photography technology According to leaked information, the Pixel 4a will not have a notch on the front like the iPhone 12 Instead, there should be a small punch-hole camera in the upper left corner iPhone 12's notch should be smaller than iPhone 11's notch, but still likely larger than the Pixel 4a's notch
Initially, it was said that the Pixel 4a would not offer wireless charging, one of the advantages that the iPhone SE and iPhone 12 would have over Google's phones However, recent leaks suggest that Google will offer wireless charging with the Pixel 4a
The two biggest drawbacks of the Pixel 4a versus the iPhone 12 seem to be the processor and 5G connectivity; the Pixel 4a is rumored to have a Snapdragon 730 processor This should provide decent performance for a mid-range phone, but the iPhone 12's rumored A14 Bionic chip should again be faster than any phone
More importantly, the Pixel 4a will not support 5G networks if Google chooses the Snapdragon 730 instead of the new Snapdragon 765 chip This means it will not enjoy faster download speeds in an increasing number of cities In other words, the Pixel 4a is not future-proof
As noted above, the Pixel 4a will also likely not have an ultra-wide angle camera This is not something that can be achieved through software Therefore, if one wants to capture more scenes without stepping back, the iPhone 12 would be a better option
Overall, however, the Pixel 4a could steal at least some of the thunder from the iPhone 12 later this summer and into the fall With the economy just beginning to recover, many people may consider the Pixel 4a With enough performance for most people and a much larger display than the iPhone SE, the $349 Pixel 4a may seem like a bargain in front of the $300 more expensive iPhone 12
