Once again, the PS5 price (this time 500 euros, allegedly leaked on Amazon France) has turned out to be a fake. This must be a familiar cycle by now: a leaker on Twitter posts a semi-confident screenshot of a major retailer's PS5 price, and an eager fan spreads it. This is what happened this time.

TechRadar was one of many sites that reported on the price, but its article correctly noted that such leaks are highly suspect, and this one was no exception. More recently, Amazon France confirmed to TechRadar that the image was a fake. Of course, in the two days since the "leaked" tweet was first uploaded, the story has already been widely circulated.

The tweet also suggested that the price of the regular PS5 is 500 euros, as well as the digital version of the PS5 at 400 euros. It is not surprising that this pricing seems realistic and attractive to people.

The price of the PS5 is Sony's best-kept secret. It is quite possible that the price has not yet been finalized as Sony and Microsoft are playing a game of economic chicken to see how much or how little they can realistically charge for the new console. Prices posted on websites are almost certainly mere placeholders, no matter how reliable those websites may be. Prices by "leakers" are at best guesses by random employees, and at worst, as in this case, pure fabrication.

While it may be fun to speculate on prices, there is no legitimate reason to believe that anyone, aside from the brass at Sony, has an accurate figure; the PS4 price was not "leaked," except by speculation on social media, and Sony has been even more secretive about the PS5 so far. has remained secretive about the PS5.

Sony does a very good job of sharing official news through these channels and letting fans know when big announcements like the June 11 gameplay showcase event are coming.
