Mammoth size of PS5 revealed in factory photos

Last week we got an idea of just how big the PS5 will be compared to other game consoles, but if that's still a little too abstract for you, how about a picture of a grown man holding it?

The photo above the text you're reading right now was reportedly sent from the production line at the factory where Sony's new PS5 is being built, ahead of its release for the 2020 holiday season. The photo was published on the ResetEra forum, and there has been much debate over its legitimacy.

And with the heavy caveat that we have no idea how tall the man in the photo is, the size of the console appears to be on the rather large side, as we had expected. This is because certain elements, such as USB ports and disk sizes, are standardized. - The PS5 is a bit larger than the PS3 because certain factors, such as USB ports and disc size, are standardized, making it very easy to compare consoles based on that information alone. As a result, the PS5 is considerably larger than the chunky original PS3. [This is obviously a problem if Sony intends to make it a portable hybrid console like the Nintendo Switch. If Sony intends to make it a handheld hybrid like the Nintendo Switch, this would obviously be a problem. If it's going to be placed under the TV and only touched occasionally to fiddle with the USB leads, it's not the end of the world, as long as the TV stand or entertainment center can withstand the size of it.

In fact, the size may be an advantage. We've all seen pictures of the original sci-fi style devkits and the space reserved for cooling. The larger footprint means more space for ventilation and hopefully means that the PS5 will not have to be as loud when the fans are in top gear.

There is hope here, by the way, as Twitter user Dreamcastguy has mocked up exactly how big the PS5 will be compared to the Xbox One X and Switch Lite. When asked if this means it will vent heat properly, he replied: he has heard from one source that the PS5 is "nearly silent at all times."

As someone who owns a PS4 Pro that looks like it has had its internal organs replaced with jet engines, I can only hope this will be confirmed when the PS5 is released later this year.
