iPhone12 Leak Reveals Fast 20W Charger to Fight Galaxy Note20

If leaked information detailing a 20W charger for Apple's new smartphone is to be believed, the iPhone 12 may get a much-needed boost in charging speed

The charger information and images come courtesy of Twitter leaker Mr White (via MacRumors) Most of the photos are of an impressive translucent charging block that shows off the internal components, presumably for a prototype Instead, we imagine Apple will stick with the traditional all-white design, as can be seen here

The charger uses a USB-C connection, similar to the iPhone 11 Pro charger However, the iPhone 12 itself will likely still use Apple's Lightning connector, and one rumor suggests that next year's iPhone 13 will remove the port entirely for a completely wireless experience

Currently, the iPhone 11 ships with Apple's older 5W charger (which is the same wattage as the charger that came with the original iPhone), and the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max ship with an 18W charger However, all models can charge at 18W, so if you want to maximize the iPhone 11's potential, you can purchase the 18W block separately

With this in mind, the 20W figure is certainly an upgrade, but how much it will be depends on which iPhone 12 model receives it If Apple does include this rumored charger in the box with all four rumored iPhone 12 versions, this could be great news for those purchasing entry-level devices However, if the standard iPhone 12 models keep the 5W charger and the 20W charger is instead a mild upgrade for Pro models only, this change is less exciting

This upgrade may make the iPhone 12 an even tougher opponent for the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 Samsung's upcoming phablet is expected to feature the same 25W fast charger as the Galaxy S20, with an optional 45W charger available separately

There are no concrete rumors yet regarding the battery that this charger will power While Apple tends to have smaller batteries than its rivals (compare the 3,046 mAh battery in the iPhone 11 Pro with the 4,000+ mAh capacity of similarly priced Android phones), independent battery tests indicate that it is far superior in its efficient use of power superior

Since the two iPhone 12 models are entirely new sizes for the iPhone line - the 54-inch iPhone 12 and the 67-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max - each is expected to have a new power cell However, we will not know their performance until we have the production versions in our hands

Other rumored upgrades for the iPhone 12 include a new A14 Bionic chipset, OLED displays and 5G support for all four models The higher-end iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max models are said to feature 120Hz displays and support both sub-6Ghz and mmWave, respectively; the Pro will also add a LiDAR depth sensor to the rear camera array, bringing the standard iPhone 12's two versus a total of four sensors on the back

Thanks to a series of announcements at Apple's WWDC 2020 online conference, we are now hearing a lot of information about iOS 14, the operating system that powers the iPhone 12 series Not only do we know for certain about all the rumored new hardware, but we also know for certain that the iPhone 12 will take advantage of new iOS 14 features such as app widgets, Back Tap controls, and App Clips
