The design of the Samsung Galaxy Fold2 looks pretty weird with these new renderings

If new renderings of the next-generation foldable phone are accurate, Samsung may have given the Galaxy Fold 2 a strange new design

Serial tech leaker Ice Universe posted two simple-looking renderings of the Galaxy Fold 2 on Twitter For the most part, it looks as expected, but the location of the internal punch-hole camera raised some eyebrows

The punch hole itself is not a surprise, as it has been seen on the Galaxy S20 series and is expected on the Galaxy Note 20 What is strange is its placement

The punch hole is placed on the right side, rather than in the center as on most Samsung phones Nor are the cutouts tucked into the corners, as in most other phones with this type of design, in order to make the display hole as unobtrusive as possible

This gives the handset an unusual appearance, but it makes sense when you think about it The camera appears to be centered on the folded right side panel It should also match the placement of the punch holes on the outer cover display when the phone is closed, from another image provided by Ice Universe (below) It appears that Samsung wanted to keep its own design and consistency throughout the phone, even if the internal display looks odd out of context

Whatever your opinion of this design, it is certainly better than what the original Galaxy Fold had; the Galaxy Fold had a large cutout for the internal camera, which took up a significant portion of the large display

It also had some other issues, such as build, weight, and size, that made it a hard phone to recommend to anyone but the most ardent pursuers of futuristic cell phone technology; hopefully the Fold 2 will fix these issues as well

Other key areas where the Galaxy Fold 2 is claimed to build on the foundation of the original Fold are the camera, performance, and display The cameras are believed to be the same as those found on the Galaxy S20 Plus, and will include the standard flagship four of main, ultra-wide, telephoto, and time-of-flight sensors, plus an internal camera and cover camera

The Fold 2's chipset will be the Snapdragon 865, which is expected to provide adequate performance

As for the screen, both the external and internal displays will be larger, and the internal display will receive a very welcome upgrade in the form of a 120 Hz refresh rate Unfortunately, the Fold 2 will likely retain the same price as its predecessor, which was approximately $2,000

The Fold 2 will likely premiere at an August event along with the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Watch 2, and Galaxy Tab S7
