TCL's new 8K QLED TV brings IMAX Enhanced-certified cinema to the living room

Called the TCL X915, the 8K TV comes in 75- and 65-inch variants, offers quantum dot display technology, and supports Dolby Vision HDR/HDR 10+ The X915 also boasts Local Dimming Technology and offers excellent contrast As for sound, according to TCL, the X915 has a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar built with Onkyo hardware

The X915's IMAX Enhanced certification means that viewers can benefit from the same 190:1 image aspect ratio as they would enjoy an IMAX movie in an actual movie theater While their home screen may not be as large, they can still get up close and personal with 8K upscaled and IMAX remastered movies

Since IMAX Enhanced technology began rolling out last year, many general manufacturers have yet to make IMAX Enhanced technology a priority, but we are excited to see that TCL is using IMAX Enhanced technology in one of its 2020 TV releases

TCL is also betting on a feature that hasn't worked well on smartphones: pop-up cameras When you are relaxing on the couch and a video chat is interrupted, a webcam appears Even if the remote control is buried deep among the cushions, the long-distance microphone can answer calls [This microphone can also be used to navigate the Android TV interface, which leverages Google Assistant and Google Assistant's optimal commands to search for content and integrate the TV into a smart home system

Some of the features announced for the TCL 2020 TV are also available on the X915 One of these is support for HDMI 21, which enables features such as enhanced audio return channel (eARC) with uncompressed audio formats, gaming with variable refresh rates that match the TV refresh rate to the game console output frame by frame to eliminate tearing and juddering and other features

8K TVs may not be mainstream yet, but with manufacturers like TVs focusing on the ultra-realistic image format, we may want to own an 8K TV sooner than we think

Even if you are interested in the TCL X915, depending on where you live, you may have to wait to purchase one It is already available in Australia and is currently being rolled out in Asia and Europe

Pricing in the US has not yet been announced, but if converted to the prices announced in India, the 75-inch model would cost $4,000 For comparison, the 75-inch Samsung Q900 8K is priced about the same
