Cyberpunk Edgerunners is what happens when a super-topical video game reaches the peak of excitement.

Edgerunners, released at the end of the Cyberpunk 2077 Night City wire stream, was a surprise to all involved. Cyberpunk 2077 is a near-future action-adventure game featuring an immersive open world with Keanu Reeves as a major character. And soon to come is an animated series that will further deepen the world of Night City.

CD Projekt Red announced that it is developing "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" with Netflix and Studio Trigger; Trigger is the developer behind "Darling and Frankie," "Little Witch Academia," "Kill la Kill," Promare," and has a strong portfolio of animation projects.

What we know so far about Cyberpunk: Edge Runners is as follows.

The 10-episode Cyberpunk: Edge Runners will be available on Netflix in 2022.

Hopefully, by that time, the postponed "Cyberpunk 2077" will be released and live up to the hype, possibly even surpassing it. If the game is released to a demographic that does not feel the need for this show, such as being more "Anthem" than "The Last of Us 2," it may be difficult to succeed on Netflix.

Incidentally, Cyberpunk 2077 itself will be released on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on November 19. In the same stream in which Cyberpunk: Edge Runner was announced, it was learned that those who purchase the current console version will receive a free PS5 and Xbox Series X version.

Nevertheless, given the success of Netflix's "The Witcher," cyberpunk programming must resonate with non-gamer audiences in order to be a hit.

In the teaser trailer for "Cyberpunk: Edge Runners," we met Saya Elder, the Japan-based producer of the series. She described herself as a "fixer" (a Cyberpunk 2077 term).

The clip does not showcase any footage from the show, but it does take us on a walking tour of Japan at night, setting the mood for the sinister show.

In the trailer, Elder says that he was "convinced that I didn't want to make a recreation of the game." Instead, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be "a standalone story set in the same universe" and will take place in Night City. The characters and story will be completely unique.

She described the show as a sort of gateway drug to gaming, as it will bring in Netflix viewers who are unfamiliar or unfamiliar with gaming.

Trigger Studio director Imaishi said, "We are making an anime that both fans of cyberpunk and those less familiar with games will enjoy."

The trailer ends with a still image of what appears to be the series' main character standing over us with a glowing fist; according to Polygon, the "street kid" at the center of the show will be the "outlaw mercenary" throughout the series will be Edgerunner.
