PS5 is easy to find at startup — here's why

When the PS5 launches at the end of the year, probably around November, there should be enough units available to satisfy PlayStation fans.

According to a report by Nikkei Asian Review, which is familiar with manufacturing and the supply chain, Sony is currently producing game consoles at a rate of one every 30 seconds. Currently, Sony manufactures two PS4 consoles per minute, a technology that will likely be carried over to the PS5.

What is the technology? It is an advanced Mitsubushi robot working on a 100-foot assembly line, capable of automatically producing PS4 consoles at very high speeds. In fact, the gaming console factory in Kisarazu is dominated by robots, with only four human workers.

With such a rapid production system, Sony will be able to meet the demand for the PS5. Even if there are rumors that the next-generation console will produce fewer units at launch than the PS4, the ability to scale up automated manufacturing should mean that Sony can get the PS5 console into the hands of retailers, and into the hands of fans, quickly.

In short, if you are planning to get a PS5 at launch or a few months after the console's launch, you should have no problem getting one. And you have the option of choosing the PS5 with a disc drive or the download-only PS5 Digital Edition. [The Xbox Series X will offer more power, 12 teraflops versus the PS5's 10.28 teraflops, and will be priced below the PS5 in terms of price. The Xbox Series X will also likely have a less expensive and less powerful companion console in the form of the Xbox Series S to compete with the PS5 Digital Edition.

Which console will come out on top remains to be seen. But the end of 2020 is likely to be an exciting time for console gamers.
