Windows 10 always seems to cause problems for someone This time it is people trying to install the May 2020 update This update has been troublesome for users trying to do a manual install via Windows Update To make matters worse, Microsoft will not tell you what the problem is
The problem has been reported by many users in the Windows Answers section of the Microsoft Community page and Super User in the technical forum, and Bleeping Computer and Techdows are also looking into this issue (via via TechRadar)
What makes this particular error uniquely frustrating, and the way to know that you are suffering from this exact problem, is the following error message:
"Your PC settings are not yet supported in this version of Windows 10 Microsoft is working on supporting your configuration soon You do not need to do anything Once these settings are supported, Windows Update will automatically provide this version of Windows 10"
The message appears
Being told that nothing is wrong is a comfort of sorts But equally unhelpful is not knowing what action to take to fix the problem or even which setting the error refers to
One potential answer discovered by Techdows is by Jenny Feng, a Microsoft employee who discovered that there may be an answer to the driver problem Her suggested solution is to first update the drivers for the hardware, then go to: Settings > Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation Details
From there, select the "Disable Core Isolation" option According to posts from users who have tried this method, it seems to have a low success rate, but it may be worth a try if you need to install updates
Another option is to install the update while the PC is disconnected from the Internet This is done by first downloading the ISO file containing the update, rebooting the PC offline, and running the update from there This is because if the update encounters another error and cannot be corrected, you may be stuck
As always, the best solution to this problem is to just wait it out Microsoft may be slow to respond, but they will eventually fix these problems Even if this is a major irritant, the cure could be more dangerous than the disease
