OnePlus bud leak reveals price underち100 to beat AirPods

The day before the launch of the OnePlus Nord, the OnePlus Buds price point and the design of the earphone body and charging case were revealed. We also hear about the features added to make the OnePlus Buds compete with Apple's AirPods.

The first teaser comes from OnePlus itself, which, according to an Instagram post, says that the OnePlus Buds will be priced at "$XX.XX". In other words, the price should be under $100. By comparison, the AirPods with charging case are $129 (regular retail price is $159).

The rendered image was courtesy of Max Weinbach, who extracted it from the APK file of the latest OnePlus 8 update and posted it on Twitter. The image is similar to previous OnePlus Buds leaks, and there is little reason to doubt the authenticity of the photo, as Weinbach has proven himself to be a reliable leaker on numerous occasions.

First, we see that the Buds come in three colors: all white, black with red trim, and turquoise blue with yellow trim. White and black are very common colors for earbuds, but the blue option is very striking. No one would mistake these for AirPods if they were wearing them on the street.

The buds themselves appear to have a fixed tip design with a long stem, like rivals like the AirPods and Huawei FreeBuds 3. OnePlus claims in a blog post that the buds are designed to fit securely into as many ear shapes as possible It claims that the buds are designed to fit securely into as many ear shapes as possible.

The Buds also have a large metal circle, which 9to5Google notes helps tie the Buds to the OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2, another key member of the OnePlus audio family.

The case matches these colors and has a rough oval shape with a charging indicator light on one side and what appears to be the OnePlus logo, hinge, and Bluetooth pairing buttons on the other. The case gives the Buds a total of 30 hours of battery life, which, based on the information OnePlus has already released about the Buds, could make them the longest-lasting true wireless earbuds on the market once they are released. They also promise fast charging, allowing for 10 hours of playback after only 10 minutes of charging.

Weinbach found not only rendered images, but also several illustrations that seem to indicate that the Buds will feature tap-to-pause control, which will stop playback when removed from the user's ear. While these are not particularly unique features, they are certainly useful, and it is good to see OnePlus implementing them in Buds.

It also promises other features that will benefit OnePlus phone users, such as an ultra-low latency mode for when playing games while wearing the Buds. 9to5Google also found evidence of Dolby Atmos support. This provides virtual surround sound for Buds, perfect for watching movies on your phone.

OnePlus' Nord launch event will take place tomorrow, where we can see both the OnePlus Buds and the company's new mid-range phone; like the Buds, the Nord looks like a great all-new product for the company, with a large 6.4-inch 90Hz display, a quad rear camera, dual front cameras, and a high-capacity battery with fast charging.

It will take some work to compete with Apple's iPhone SE (2020) and the highly anticipated Google Pixel 4a, but the Nord's specs are promising. And the OnePlus Buds could be the perfect partner for Nord.
