AirPods Pro beware; Bose's Earbuds 700 has appeared in a pre-release video and looks to be a strong competitor to Apple's high-end buds
A new video by YouTube user Josh Quill (via Gadgets360) shows off Bose's new noise-canceling earphones There are no rumors about a release schedule or pricing details, but given that these "buds" look like they could be available at retail, it looks like we won't have to wait long
The box in the video says "QuietComfort Earbuds" prominently on the front, despite the fact that the Buds are not believed to be part of the QuietComfort series
The back of the box lists features such as noise cancellation, a transparent mode (allowing the wearer to hear the outside world when wearing them), and sweat and water resistance It also states that the buds have a battery life of 6 hours and can run for an additional 12 hours when placed in the charging case and can be recharged wirelessly
Inside are the bud, the charging case, two alternative gel tips, and a USB-A to USB-C charging cable The buds have a chunky, pill-shaped body, and the gel tips extend backward into a small arm that stabilizes the buds in the user's ears There is also a blue LED on the outside that appears to indicate if the bud is connected to the device [The charging case also looks like a pill, with a button on the bottom half to open the lid and another button in the center of the charging socket for Bluetooth pairing
The Bose 700 headphones, which are over-the-ear headphones from Earbuds700, are our pick for both the best noise-canceling headphones and the best headphones overall They have excellent audio, great usability, long battery life, and look great That's why we have high hopes that Bose's smaller followers can compete with Apple's AirPods Pro
Luckily for Bose, it looks like we won't see new AirPods until next year, with upgraded standard AirPods coming in the first half of 2021, and the new AirPods Pro should appear in the second half This is according to a DigiTimes report (via iMore), which cites industry sources in Vietnam, where there is a factory that manufactures AirPods primarily for the US market
There are also projections of a 20% increase in shipments from 90 million to 100 million units sold in 2020 This is a major challenge for Bose to overcome with its new earbuds, but there is a good chance that it can create a product that can compete with Apple's class-leading buds
