PS5 Event Tipped to 8/6 - and Xbox Series X Could Be In Trouble

According to credible leakers, the next PS5 event is just around the corner. This could include the announcement of the PS5 pre-order start date and the price of the console, which could be sandwiched in at the last minute, just as the hardware announcement was made after the gameplay footage was shown at the last event.

We are willing to trust this leak because it comes from Robert Serrano, who revealed the dates of the PS5 "Future of Gaming" event in June before the official announcement.

Serrano told gamers to mark their calendars for Thursday, August 6 at 1 PM PT (4 PM EST, 9 PM CST), two weeks from tomorrow. It has not explained what the event will focus on, but rumors have been flying around since earlier this month of a game-focused event featuring more first- and third-party titles.

Here at Tom's Guide, we're hoping to get some more information on "Spider-Man: Miles Morales" and "Horizon:" given the confusion about whether the former is a standalone game.

All prospective PS5 owners will be equally interested in what games will actually be released during the 2020 holiday season.

At the same time, plans could change, and until Sony itself confirms the event's existence, it has no intention of running Serrano's claims as fact.

Microsoft will hold its biggest Xbox Series X event to date tomorrow (July 23), the Xbox Games Showcase, and if the Xbox gets a lot of attention at this showcase, the PS5 event in August could be the perfect way for Sony to regain momentum could be.
