They say "all that glitters is not gold," but in the case of this golden PS5, that adage does not hold true. It is the product of luxury British brand Truly Exquisite.

In other words, if you have a wad of cash that would make Scrooge McDuck stroke with envy, you can get your hands on a 24-karat gold or platinum-covered PS5, which will be available at the end of the year. It's likely to cost a few thousand dollars or tens of thousands of pounds, so if you want to save a few bucks, there will be an 18-karat rose gold version.

No official price has been announced for this glittering PS5 console, but Kunal Patel, founder of Truly Exquisite, says that "probably not even 100 units will be available worldwide." In other words, the gold-coated PS5 will probably have a lease price equivalent to six iPhone 11 Pro Max devices.

In 2013, a 24-karat gold-plated Xbox One was offered for sale at luxury store Harrods for £6,000 (about $8,000). Therefore, the PS5 with the Truly Exquisite finish is expected to fetch the same price or more.

The design of the PS5 is certainly controversial, but to get a PS5 covered in gold or platinum, you would have to be someone who completely loves the aesthetic of the console but hates the dual-tone color scheme. Or maybe you have more money than sense.

Sony has stated that many custom finishes will be available once the PS5 is released.

Even if you want to splurge on a gold PS5, it is worth noting that the PS5 will deliver 10.28 teraflops of power. This is far more than the current generation of game consoles, and probably why the PS5 is so much bigger.

We are not thermodynamics experts, but we think that coating the PS5 in gold would not do much for cooling.

If you really want to make your PS5 gaming setup "luxurious," you might want to get a new Marantz AV receiver, which promises an audio boost for the PS5. Or save up and get an Xbox Series X so you can play all the games announced at the latest Xbox 2020 event.
