PS5 has killer new features to beat Xbox series Xbox

The PS5 will include an "Activities" feature that will allow users to enter certain parts of the game directly from the main menu.

According to Gematsucon's Twitter (via TechRadar), a preview of WRC 9 by Gamereactor is not currently available and mentions this feature.

For the rally driving game WRC 9, the activity appears to allow users to enter a race from the main menu without entering the game normally and selecting the race from there.

The Activities feature has been hinted at for some time in PS5, but has never been named as such; PS5 chief architect Mark Cerny previously mentioned that the PS5 menu would allow users to select single player missions and their rewards, or the available He explained that you can see a selection of multiplayer activities, which you can then select and dive into.

This seems like a natural extension of the PS4 and Xbox One's instant resume feature. It is not clear if "activity" is Sony's own name for this feature, or if it is a name that Kylotonn, the developer of WRC 9, has decided to use for their games only.

We have seen a Sony patent that sets out plans for a menu that would allow fast swapping between different apps. If Sony just sketched out this idea, it may not make it into the PS5, but it sounds like something that could at least make it into the console in a future update.

The PS5's hardware does allow for some cool features of its own. Sony's custom SSD design is said to allow for nearly instantaneous level loading. And the DualSense controller's haptic feedback combined with 3D audio compatibility should make next-gen gaming more immersive than ever.

If you're considering buying the PS5, the standard and digital edition versions will be available around November. That's the same time rival Xbox will launch the Xbox Series X. The Xbox Series X will offer similar features but with higher graphics output, and Microsoft's Smart Delivery system will make the Xbox One and Xbox Series X broadly cross-compatibility.
