PS5 and Xbox Series X Prices Seem Imminent - What to Expect

Word is circulating online that the Xbox Series X and PS5 prices may be revealed this month.

Imran Khan of Kinda Funny Games and former editor-in-chief of Game Informer (via DualShockers and TechRadar) spoke about Sony and Microsoft's upcoming announcement events.

"Both have shows this month. From what I've heard, both have to talk about hardware this month.

This quote can be seen in context around the 56:40 minute mark of the video below. He then predicts that the price of the PS5 will be quite high, around $450. 7]

Khan also claims that more software news will be announced by both companies, although it may not take place at the same time as these events. Khan expressed that he "can't believe they are announcing that here," and the game is going to be a big topic of conversation.

He also states that Sony will put on a particularly interesting show, as they have several big announcements coming up. He said, "They are holding some things that I am really surprised about, and I wouldn't be shocked if they show them soon.

Sony just announced that their next State of Play event will take place on August 6, and I'm not really inclined to believe that's the day the PS5 price will be revealed. In a blog post announcing the SoP, Sony said "no updates on hardware, business, pre-orders, or dates," doing its best to make us believe the event will be focused on gaming. Since Microsoft has been announcing its Series X monthly, we can expect it to follow shortly after Sony's announcement, but no specific date has been set yet.

As for the price of the consoles themselves, there are slight differences between them; the PS5 comes in standard and digital versions. The digital version will not have a Blu-ray Disc drive, but will have a lower purchase price; the Xbox Series X will not have multiple editions as far as we know, but as mentioned before, the Xbox Series S is Microsoft's proposal for cheaper next-generation gaming possible.

Both consoles will share features such as ray-tracing graphics, SSD storage, and AMD-powered processors. However, the two consoles then diverge: the Xbox offers higher graphics processing power and smart delivery capabilities that allow users to purchase games once and play them on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The PS5, on the other hand, will offer a unique tactile feedback controller called Dual Sense and 3D audio.
