Despite the PS5 launch being months away, Sony's next State of Play event will likely focus on PS4 games. But that doesn't mean the Japanese tech giant won't be itching for PS5 news in August.

Bloomberg reports that Sony plans to hold another event in August focused on its next-generation gaming console. At such an event, more PS5 games may be announced and the price of the console may finally be revealed.

"Sony's next announcement about the PlayStation 5 is tentatively scheduled for this month," Bloomberg reported, citing an anonymous Sony source. The word "tentatively" is important because it leaves open the possibility that the rumored PS5 event will skip August and take place in September.

Sony's next State of Play event, which will take place on August 6, will focus on PS4 and PSVR games and will include a small update on the PS5 titles announced at the Future of Gaming event in June. However, no new PS5 exclusive titles are expected.

The August PS5 event will not be a bad move for Sony. That one gave us a glimpse of "Horizon Forbidden West" and "Gran Turismo 7," but there should be more to be announced from Sony.

Microsoft is rumored to announce a digital-only Xbox Series S in August that will be a less powerful version of the Xbox Series X. Sony's August event focused on the PS5 would therefore serve to divert attention away from its main console gaming rivals.
