Rocksteady, the studio behind "Batman: Arkham," is officially developing a "Suicide Squad" sequel This was revealed via a tweet from the company, but that's all we know: Rocksteady's "Suicide Squad" game has long been the subject of rumors, and while Rocksteady has finally confirmed the news, we'll have to wait a while to find out anything about it We'll have to wait a while before we know anything about it
The information comes from Rocksteady's official Twitter feed A brief tweet reads: "Target Lock - #DCFanDome - August 22 #suicidesquadgame" Below that is a picture of a glowing reddish-purple Superman with a target on his head that reads "Suicide Squad"
For those not familiar with DC Comics lore, there are a few things to unpack here First of all, the Suicide Squad is a team of DC Comics supervillains with a rotating cast The group has been around since the 50s and has a veritable who's who of villains, but recent popular members include Harley Quinn, El Diablo, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang Generally speaking, the Suicide Squad unites not to commit crimes, but to carry out dubious missions for government organizations that would never accept a superhero
(There was also a very disappointing Suicide Squad movie in 2016 It's probably best not to talk too much about it here)
The tweet itself does not give us much to go on Instead, it tells us that we will find out more about the match at the DCFanDome, an online event on August 22 (To access the DCFanDome, simply log on to the official DCFanDome website anytime on August 22 The event will run for 24 hours) We can also assume that the basic premise of the game is that the Suicide Squad will hunt down Superman in some way, but whether that is the entire story, one particular mission, or just a red herring for a teaser post, who No one knows
Nor do we know what kind of game "Suicide Squad" will be, although we can guess from Rocksteady's previous DC titles It is more likely that we will control a supervillain and fight off enemies in stylish, counterattack-based melee combat Exploring vast (possibly open-world) environments and unearthing secrets and upgrades would be familiar territory
On the other hand, Rocksteady may take a different direction Especially since Suicide Squad is a team, not a lone hero like Batman Some sort of multiplayer element could be considered, as well as mission-based gameplay that reflects the mercenary nature of Suicide Squad The later "Batman: Arkham Game" experimented with switching between different characters depending on the mission, and I have actually played as Harley Quinn
More details will be revealed on August 22 In the meantime, if you want to enjoy "Suicide Squad," we suggest you pick up the comic and stay away from the movie
